Training & teaching

Two decades of surgical experience. One calm, unhurried approach.

Since qualifying in 2002 I've trained in oral surgery and oral and maxillofacial surgery departments in hospitals and in the community. Today I teach on two Master's programmes at the University of Manchester, and treat patients referred to me across Greater Manchester.

Experience matters in surgery, but so does how you feel in the chair. I take the time to explain, answer every question and make sure you're comfortable before anything begins.

Nervous patients

Anxious about surgery? You're not alone.

Many of the people I see are worried before they arrive. A calm, friendly manner, clear explanations and no rushing go a long way, and conscious sedation is there when you need a little more help.

  • Time to talk through your worries before treatment starts
  • Every step explained, so there are no surprises
  • Conscious sedation available for more complex procedures
  • Lecturer in conscious sedation for newly qualified dentists
What sedation feels like

Awake, deeply relaxed, and time flies.

Monitored throughout

Oxygen levels, pulse and blood pressure are watched for your safety.

Little memory of it

With IV sedation, many people remember very little afterwards.

Questions

Good to know

Can't find your answer? Send me an enquiry and we'll be in touch.

Do I need a referral from my dentist?

Not for private treatment such as dental implants. You can enquire directly. NHS minor oral surgery is usually accessed through a referral from your own dentist.

Which practice will I be seen at?

Usually whichever is most convenient for you. Let us know your preferred location in the enquiry quiz, or browse the practices I work at.

Will it hurt?

Procedures are carried out under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure but not pain. Some soreness and swelling afterwards is normal, and you'll be given clear advice on how to manage it.

Can I be sedated for my treatment?

Conscious sedation is often available for nervous patients and longer procedures. It depends on your medical history and the practice. Read more about sedation.

How much will treatment cost?

Fees depend on the treatment you need and where you're treated. For private treatment, you'll receive a written plan with costs after your consultation, before anything goes ahead.
